Would you like to compare your voice and mine? I made a short tutorial video on how to use Praat, free software for voice analysis.
The world is very large.

Beautiful view:) Can we find mushrooms there?
-
Mushrooms coming up! ;D
-
I like collect a mushrooms even I have got a basket for it:)
-
I also like going to collect mushrooms. They are delicious! There are some forests near my city where I use to go in fall.
-
How do you know the mushrooms you are picking are safe to eat?
-
Picking mushrooms is an old tradition here, in Catalonia. There are a lot of any kind in our forests. Specialists can pick a lot of safe ones, but I can only identify a few, so I pick them and don’t touch the others, just in case.

@jorge
One way is to notice if it bulbous. If it has a muffin like top and a bulging stem bottom then it might be ok. The next test is to squeeze the stem. If it changes to a blue or purple color then it is poisonous or hallucinogenic. These are just a couple of tests. Combine this with knowledge of locality and you are good to go. -
Interesting. Thank you for sharing the knowledge.
If anyone finds any poisonous mushrooms, please let me know. I will keep them separately just in case I need it in future. ;p -
Have a lot of experience with wild mushrooms, do you, @professor? I’m suspicious

Hi Ms. @Yomi,
Do you still do your lyrics exercises? If so, I request we do this one.
-
Just thinking.. where did you find this song @jorge ?
-
Youtube must have suggested it to me while I was listening to something else. Unfortunately, I have no idea what I was listening to before I found this. Do you like it, @Sorin?
-
HI @jorge nice hearing from you. I am not doing exercises lately but would be great if anyone wanted to do it, it is very easy, just copy pasting lyric and deleting some words
-
Why dont you try? @sorin

Recently I was asked a few questions that really perplexed me. So, right now I’m ready to emit a light on them. Last Sunday I got up in the morning before dawn. I was gonna to get around to have a little hiking (it’s a real fun at a weekend). I thought If I wanna take an axe or rake but eventually I decided to get along without them. So I…[Read more]
-
Why would you go hiking with a rake?
-
Yep
It’s a last resort to resolve a problem at night and in the same time It’s less burdened with the risk to be sued eventually. I know It sounds a little bit bloody, but it was merely grammar training
-
Wonderful! I love your writing. MORE PLEASE! Inner expressionism based on dream state is a fantastic way to express English . I love it. More please.
And….don’t give up on LSL. I need you.

Love the idea! -
Yeah, I’m biased to videos about Cypris, of course, but I really do think this is a great project. It took a lot for you to produce this little video, didn’t it? I hope others will take up the challenge.
-
I didn’t edit the video at all. It took maybe 5-6 times to do the recordings because I kept making mistakes. haha. It is also good to just shoot away and say whatever comes to your mind. I added the subtitles of English and Japanese after I uploaded on YouTube. The most difficult part for me was to find where I wanted to make the video. I…[Read more]

you are right!
you are clever! -
Do you have any ideas how get those wrong result?
-
50
-
@agnieszka I have found 2 ways to reach 0 as answer, but I still cannot find 50 as result. mmmmm I will keep thinking, I like this
-
I also got now 56 as answer… I am confused…. I see many correct answers
-
I also got now 8 and 50… I am confused…. I see all of them are correct answers. So I would bet that the real answer is ”all of them” or none of them. Or considering as correct 56, following a logic order.
@okapon @jorge @agnieszka @jasmina I demand a clear explanation, lol, otherwise I could not sleep today -
I’m going to explore a new coffeehouse today!
((7 + 7) / (7 + 7)) * (7 – 7) = 0
(7 + (7 / (7 + (7 * (7 – 7))))) = 8
(7 + (7 / 7)) + ((7 * 7) – 7) = 50
(((((7 + 7) / 7) + 7) * 7) – 7) = 56What’s more popular in your country; espresso? drip? French press?
-
In Spain used to be the drip system, but nowadays the tendency is to buy the capsules machines.
@jorge I got the same results, but why 50 is the right answer then? -
Capsule machines? Stop making up stories, @Yomi, there’s no such thing as capsule machines!
By convention we perform multiplication and division before addition and subtraction, even though other logical orders exist.
-
Wow jorg:) Yomi when we cout we must fallow the rules:) Sequence of actions:)
-
But Yomi the right answer is 50:) I only wondered how we have to count to get that wrong results:)
-
late but ..I will post it anyway 7+7:7(1)+7×7(49)-7= 7+1+49-7=8+42= 50

I am operator with my pocket calculator
. @agawikusia just use one and you get all possible wrong answers. I heard a story about cashier who bomb the test 2+2*2 and required a proof that it’s not 8
. An excel was exhibited that crunched equation to give 6 and cashier said ”Now, I’ve agreed that microsoft software usually glitched” -
Haha. Well, I can give the person a little bit of credit because computer output doesn’t usually constitute proof (eg. What if the excel programmers just hadn’t coded for order of operations? Then it would incorrectly say 2 + 2 * 2 = 8, but it still would not be true). On the other hand, poor person. Faith may have its role in certain parts of…[Read more]

Hi All. Just got around to watching the tutorial. This is EXCELLENT, @Professor! Thank you so much for bringing this to Cypris. Thanks @jorge. I really hope you can enlighten me on speech analysis. It’s not something I’m really familiar with, but it’s interesting for learners to see how their pronunciation differs from native speakers.
So here’s a very quick primer.
The magic of Praat is that it makes speech visible. It does this by applying the mathematical concept/algorithm of the Fourier Transform, which essentially converts continuous variations in air pressure (sound) into numbers which can be graphed on two or three dimensions.
The top graph that you see above is called…[Read more]

Thanks for such an interesting and informative post. This is a new field for me. I’m trying to understand how I can apply this new knowledge in my teaching. I often point out the connections native speakers produce between words (liasons), but helping them to be more aware and motivated to copy the sound of English is quite difficult.
I…[Read more]
